Necrosis aka Blood Snow (2009)
This will be mercifully short as the movie was a whole 76 minutes long and there was absolutely nothing new or interesting in it. While debating the 'trapped' people genre, I've been wondering whether to watch the exciting (yawn) saga of three people stuck in a glass enclosed ATM for a night, or three people stuck in a sauna for ???. Decisions, decisions. After seeing Thirst and Frozen, I know exactly what to expect and how much coffee (or whiskey, depending) to keep on hand when I watch them. And Necrosis? What does that have to do with any of the movie? Even Blood Snow is a little vague but really, don't fret it 'cause you don't have to watch it.
This short, dumb and poorly done movie is not in any way surprising - it's yet another take on the Donner Party Massacre. I think I'd rather watch the musical again. For one thing, it's supposed to be in the Sierra Nevada mountains like the Donner party had to cross, but all filming was done in California. Duh. For those who've never heard the spook story (greatly exaggerated over time) of the Donner Party, in 1846 they were trying to get to California and basically they screwed up and thought they could get through the mountains during winter time. A blizzard popped up, trapping them without being able to travel anywhere to get food or any kind of shelter. They were supposedly out there for months, eventually going mad and some eating others (most were already dead as I understand) but although most stories claim that only a few got out, like less than five, actually 48 survived, although they were tainted by the 'cannibalism' they had to resort to in order to survive.
The story begins in 2008 as six friends arrive at an isolated cabin just as a snowstorm sets in even though it was supposed to be clear all through the trip. Interestingly (barely) these are not teenagers or 'college students', they are adults (one played by Tiffany who also sang a couple of the songs on the soundtrack - oh joy) and after finding the caretaker's body frozen in the snow, they start to get a little cabin fever. One fellow is seeing apparitions of the original Donner party warning him to 'save himself'. However, later it's revealed that he is taking medication for schizophrenia, so is this a supernatural movie or just six idiots in the snow?
Long story short, six idiots. We're down to two confirmed alive and two maybes at the end of the movie but it gives no real ending. Do we care if they lived? The movie was too long as it was, let 'em freeze.
