Miscellaneous Insanity
Just a smattering of the old and the new that I've come across of what kind of horrid things our so-called civilized world has happen all the time - man is truly the worst and most scary animal on this planet.
The So-Called Urban Legend Of Adelaide: Adelaide is the capital city of South Australia and the fifth-largest city in Australia. According to the 2011 census, on 9 August 2011 Adelaide had a population of 1.23 million. It is South Australia's largest employment sector in health care and social assistance, surpassing manufacturing in SA as the largest employer since 2006–07. It also is known for its incredible, but infamous other industry - murder.
Now a site that debunks urban legends has this to say: It's often said that Adelaide has more serial killers per capita than any other city in the world. This isn't just a silly bar story, either – Top Gear referenced it in a column, and advertisements for the TV show Dexter characterize sleepy Adelaide as a blood-drenched murder city.
In 2008, the Australian Bureau of Statistics found that South Australia holds fifteen percent of Australia's convicted murderers, despite holding only eight percent of population. Some of its serial killers, like John Bunting, even made double figures before they were caught. Doubters might argue that the ABS figure includes manslaughter, and that the murder rate in South Australia is below the national average (according to unreliable authorities like the Australian Institute of Criminology). Still, it makes you wonder.
Okay, even a debunking site has its doubts about this place. If you want to check it out for yourself, all you have to do is Google Adelaide and it will immediately churn out 73,000 results. Even if some of those are doubles or triples of the same story that's a hell of a lot of violence.
She had shot and killed her brother in Massachusetts in 1986; the shooting had been deemed an accident at the time, but the case is being reevaluated. Bishop was also suspected of sending a Harvard colleague a pipe bomb in 1994; this too is now being reviewed.
It was only after she was accused of the 2010 shooting that her violent story came together, revealing the two earlier incidents, a pancake house assault and some wild, murderous unpublished novels.
Anderson's attorney complained that he couldn't get her to shup up about the case. She was originally described as a paranoid schizophrenic, but then it was believed she did it because of her anger at being denied tenure, saying that "the Harvard mentality" made it just too hard for her to bear this sort of failure.
She eventually plead guilty and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in Alabama on September 24, 2012.
The Murder Of Jeffrey Korber: In August 2013 in Ventura, CA, police found the body of a California man missing for more than two years in a freezer in his girlfriend's storage unit, authorities said Thursday. Officers found the body of Jeffrey Korber in June after searching the unit in Ventura as part of a homicide investigation, Ventura police Cmdr. Darin Schindler said. Ventura police said in a statement they believe Michael Bresnak killed Korber at his mother's Ventura home and that she helped him store the body. Police declined to release additional details of the killing.
Korber was reported missing by his brother in July 2011 in Laguna Beach. Police in the Orange County city tried to track down Korber, who did not hold down a job and spent much of his time traveling across the country and staying with friends, Laguna Beach police Capt. Jason Kravetz said.
Investigators tracked then-58-year-old Korber to Hannan's home in Ventura. Police interviewed Hannan for more than two hours and learned the two had a dating relationship and he had received mail at a post office box registered to her home, Kravetz said.
After that, police had no more leads on Korber's whereabouts until a little over a month ago, when the body was found, Kravetz said.
SERIAL KILLERS: (Pictured is Albert Fish, whose horrible deeds can be found in an earlier blog entry)
Known Childhood Traits: Psychological abuse, physical injuries, sexually stressful, growing up lonely and isolated, daydreaming and/or fantasizing, compulsive masturbation, isolation, chronic lying, enuresis (bed wetting), rebelliousness, nightmares, destroying property, fire setting, stealing, cruelty to children, poor body image, temper tantrums, sleep problems, assaulting adults, phobias, running away, cruelty to animals, accident prone, headaches, destroying possessions, eating problems, convulsions, self-mutilation (Notice: Having one or more of these disorders does not mean the person will definitely become a serial killer, just that these are some of the traits found in common with those that have been studied).
As these children become adults, the traits can expand to include alcohol and substance abuse, voyeurism and fetishism - again not a 100% indication that the person suffering the above will kill, just some commonalities among those considered serial killers.
