Hello to all those faithfully reading and hopefully enjoying this effort to make even the worst horror movie more watcha... aw, screw that - I'm not that good. If a movie makes you cringe because yet another batch of unlikable teens that are pushing 30 are inching toward their deaths, having a party no one does anywhere ever, a paranormal movie is boring you to tears with unending pans of empty rooms, or thanks to CGI technology when people finally bite it, their blood squirts everywhere except on the victim, the ground, the people next to them... you're in good company and this is the right place for you.

A SHAKY HAND-HELD FOUND FOOTAGE FILM SHOT MOSTLY IN NIGHT VISION THAT ACTUALLY IS PRETTY GREAT - HONEST!

Quarantine (2008)

This movie has a lot of elements I absolutely hate in movies. Hand held cameras, most of it is dark, a lot of running means a lot of footage of shaky pictures that can really give you a headache. The 'found footage' idea has really started to take off since the insufferable The Blair Witch Project (And that movie was scary why? If I wanted to see teenagers scream, swear and fight with each other I'll hang out at a local high school. Oooh, somebody made a pile of rocks... I'm not sleeping tonight!).

This is a remake of a Spanish film called REC which I had been looking for (never did find it either). However, this is actually a smart, tense movie that follows a TV crew as they shadow fireman to a call about a sick woman. Since this is sort of zombie-like, of course I had to check it out. Despite the elements I mentioned, this is actually a very good movie. There are no big names in it, doesn't need to be - the story carries the movie and doesn't really need a big name to sell it.

The firemen and TV crew end up being 'quarantined' in this building because the 'sick' woman has actually gotten - well, let's just say it's the foaming at the mouth, screaming, biting people kind of thing. And of course the CDC, instead of trying to help them, lie to the public saying the building has been evacuated while planning on never letting the people leave.

The tension is high throughout, there are plenty of scary and just plain psycho scenes to keep your interest and this is definitely worth a look.
